GREAT NEWS!!! We didn't have to wait until tomorrow - Dr. Rytting and the radiologist read the PET scan today and both agree Joey has had a "complete metabolic response." This means that there is "no cancer activity." Cancer glows like white hot fire on the PET scans - his chest looked like a bonfire on the 10/11 scans. They looked like soot today - not one bit of a glow!!!! YEAHHHHHHH!! YIPPPPEEEE!!! HOOORRAYYY!!! There is still a good bit of tissue mass around his trachea and bronchia but not as much as there was. Some of the mass is scar tissue (which doesn't count and which may never go away) and some is tumor that is dead but hasn't shrunk away. Of course the national children's cancer group still has the final say - but it definitely looks like Joey and his energizer bunny body has more than exceeded the first target.

What this means to Joey - only two more chemo cycles instead of four!!!! Yeah! It means he can get back to a lot of golf and regular school sooner rather than later, hopefully in late January. It also means he continues in the clinical trial and will be "randomized" to either 3 weeks of radiation or no radiation.

Up next - back in the hospital Monday, Dec. 3, to starts cycle 3 of chemo , then his last cycle will start the day after Christmas. On a side note, his "counts" are okay, a few a little low, but okay for now.
